Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) is a C9 League university with strengths in engineering, technology, management, and life sciences located in Xi'an, Shaanxi, China. It is a Chinese Ministry of Education Class A Double First Class University. XJTU's twenty schools comprise a comprehensive research university offering programs in nine areas: science, engineering, medicine, economics, management, art, law, philosophy and education.
Xi’an Jiaotong University is a famous institution of higher learning established in my country first and well-known at home and abroad, and a key university directly under the Ministry of Education.
At the end of the 19th century, the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895 was defeated and the nation was in distress. Sheng Xuanhuai, a famous industrialist and educator in modern times, upholds the belief that “ self-reliance is the first to reserve talents, and talents must first start learning ”. In 1896, Nanyang College was established in Shanghai and named Jiao Tong University in 1921. The school adheres to the mission of " seeking realism and doing business " and emphasizes the goal of " cultivating the first-class character, seeking first-class knowledge, creating a first-class career, and becoming a first-class talent ". In the 1920s and 1930s, a famous university with unique " science and engineering management " characteristics was formed, and it was known as the "MIT" of the East. During the War of Resistance Against Japan, the school moved to the concession, Chongqing, and insisted on running schools in Shanghai and Chongqing. In order to resist foreign aggression, many students took part in the battle and took a bloody battle. On the eve of liberation, teachers and students actively participated in the democratic revolution and liberation struggle, and the school was known as the " fortress of democracy. "
In 1955, the central government decided to move Jiaotong University to Xi'an; in 1956, teachers and students moved to Xi'an in batches; in 1957, it was divided into two parts of Jiaotong University, Xi'an and Shanghai, under unified leadership; in 1959, the Xi'an part of Jiaotong University was named Xi'an Jiaotong University In the same year, it was listed as one of the 16 key universities in the country. In 2000, the State Council decided to merge Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an Medical University, and Shaanxi University of Finance and Economics to form the new Xi'an Jiaotong University.
